Ricardo Ribeiro Fernandes (born April 21, 1978 in Moreira de Cónegos, Guimarães) is a Portuguese football attacking midfielder who plays for FC Metalurh Donetsk.

Career

Portugal

After a number of impressive performances for Gil Vicente FC, Fernandes was transferred to Sporting Lisbon, hailed as one of Portugal's brightest young prospects. After only one season, he was signed by José Mourinho for his FC Porto side which famously won the 2004 UEFA Champions League, although Fernandes appeared sparingly (19 matches in all competitions, as he played understudy to Portuguese international Deco) and left after another sole season.

APOEL

After a spell with Académica Coimbra, Fernandes was signed on a lucrative three-year deal to APOEL F.C. in Cyprus. In his first season he became an instant crowd hero with his surging runs, deadly set-pieces and creative passing, scoring 9 times with a remarkable 30 assists. In his second season, he notched 13 league goals, as APOEL were crowned league champions. [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkLed3IQEI0 APOEL video compilation, at YouTube] ]

Metalurh Donetsk

In February 2008, Fernandes signed with Ukrainian side FC Metalurh Donetsk.
