Janice Woods Windle . It is also the name of a 1997 TV movie that was made based on the book.Windle is an accomplished and well-known Texas author. Windle's first two novels, True Women and Hill Country and her first published work, the True Women Cookbook, all became best sellers and are based on extensive research into Windle's ancestors. The story starts when young Euphemia Ashby (
Tina Majorino ) and young Georgia Lawshe (Rachael Leigh Cook ) are by the creek playing when a rider rushes by. When they get back to the house they find out that the rider has told Georgia's parents that Phemie's father is dead. So Phemie's brother-in-law Bartlett comes to take Phemie to Texas to live with him and Phemie's sister Sarah.External links
