Gaius Rubellius Blandus

Gaius Rubellius Blandus

Gaius Rubellius Blandus (died 38) was a consul of ancient Rome, a grandson of Rubellius Blandus of Tibur (see Tivoli, Italy). Blandus' family were from the Equestrian class. Blandus was a moneyer in 4 BC; Quaestor in 1; Tribune in 6; Praetor in 11; Consul in 18 and African Proconsul in 36.

After 32, he married Julia, daughter of Livilla and consul Julius Caesar Drusus (Tacitus, "Ann." 6. 27. 1). Julia was the granddaughter of Emperor Tiberius. Their children included the wealthy Gaius Rubellius Plautus who was considered as a rival to Emperor Nero, a daughter Rubellia Bassa and according to an inscription maybe the father of a Rubellius Drusus. Juvenal (Satire VIII. 39) suggests another son, also named Gaius Rubellius Blandus.
