- Richard Hooper
Richard Hooper was an Irish
soccer player during the 1900s.He played for the amateur Bohemians during his career in
Ireland . Hooper was a top player in his era and his best goalscoring season came in 1901/02 when he scored 20 goals in all competitions from just 19 games. Incredibly all but one of those goals were in the 13 league games he played that season. [Bohemian FC match programme, Vol. 52, no. 24] .Richard was a member of Bohemian's Leinster League winning sides of 1900, 1901 and 1902 and played a big part in their run to the 1903
Irish Cup Final where they faced Distillery. Bohs were defeated 3-1 and Richard was not part of the starting line-up. However 5 years later, he made up for that defeat by scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Shelbourne in the 1908Irish Cup Final replay as Bohs won their first national trophy. [Irish Times, 30th March 1908] .His brother Willie was also a top footballer in Ireland in the same era and played many games alongside his brother in the red and black of Bohemians.
