Stephen C. Shannon (born
April 5, 1971in Berkeley, California) is an American politician. Shannon, a Democrat, has been a state delegate from Virginiarepresenting the 35th District since 2004. He is currently campaiging for the Democratic nomination for state Attorney Generalin 2009, although he hasn't yet launched an official campaign committee. Shannon, a resident of
Dunn Loring, Virginia, represents the 35th District encompassing Fairfax County, Virginiain the Virginia House of Delegates. Prior to being elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, Shannon served as Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Fairfax County. Steve is also a trial lawyer at the Fairfax law firm of Odin, Feldman & Pittleman.
Steve and his wife Abby co-founded the Metropolitan Washington AMBER (America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response) Plan in 2001. The AMBER Plan issues immediate alerts to the general public using radio, television, and highway signs when a child is abducted. To date, the AMBER Plan tool has successfully recovered more than 195 children nation-wide. Shannon received his undergraduate degree from
Fairfield University; his master's degree from Georgetown Universityand law degree from the University of Virginia School of Lawwhere he was a member of the Virginia Law Review.
