Jorge Santiago (born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. His most notable win was against Jeremy Horn via submission on September 1, 2007 in Dallas, Texas at the Art of War 3.

Santiago recently won the Strikeforce Middleweight Tournament after defeating Sean Salmon and Trevor Prangley in the same night.

MMA career

Jorge Santiago started his Mixed Martial Arts career at Reality Fighting 2 in 2002 with a win over Jose Rodriguez. In the following years Santago fought for Absolute Fighting Championships, King of the Cage, and a few other small organisations.

In 2006 he got signed with Ultimate Fighting Championships, where he competed three times. He won his UFC debut against Justin Levens by first round KO but lost his following UFC bouts against Chris Leben and Alan Belcher. After the two lost fights he had to leave the UFC.

In his first fight after leaving the UFC Santiago was victorious against Andrei Semenov at the Bodog Fight - Clash of the Nations show in Russia. In his next fight he had to deal with the top 10 fighter Jeremy Horn and for the surprise of many people he submitted him in the first round.

The next challenge for Santiago was the Strikeforce middleweight tournament on 11.16.2007. Competing in the tournament as the underdog he beat Sean Salmon in the first round of the tournement. In the finals Santiago again surprised the MMA world by beating Trevor Prangley.

As of February 21, 2008 Santiago is ranked the number 10 middleweight in the world by Sherdog.com [http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles.asp?n_id=11425&my_page=4] and he was also ranked number 8 middleweight by groundandpound.de [http://www.groundandpound.de/weltrangliste/weltrangliste/mittelgewicht-februar-2008.html] in February.
