West Adams Preparatory High School is a secondary school in the South Los Angeles community [http://cityplanning.lacity.org/complan/central/pdf/genlumap.scl.pdf] of Los Angeles, California, United States.
The school is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District and is operated in conjunction with a nonprofit organization, [http://mentorla.org MLA Partner Schools] , formerly called Mentor LA.
History
The school opening in fall 2007 relieved Belmont High School, Dorsey High School, Los Angeles High School, and Manual Arts High School [http://www.laschools.org/employee/mpd/fs-mpd/download/07-08_webmaps/Proj02.pdf] [http://www.laschools.org/project-status/one-project?project_number=55.98021] . The school is divided into six smaller schools each representing collegiate style themes. The six smaller schools include science and technology, Media Film and Art, Performing arts and literature, International studies and I.D.E.A. Core programs at West Adams include Advisory (a required course for every student all four years whereby students receive information regarding college and career opportunities) and "7 to 7" (an elongated school day offering enrichment opportunities for students and families before and after normal school hours).
As an MLA Partner School, West Adams is a non-charter public school that is operated in collaboration with a private sector intermediary (i.e., MLA).
