Burr Harrison

Burr Powell Harrison (July 2, 1904 - December 29, 1973) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia, son of Thomas W. Harrison.

Born in Winchester, Virginia, Harrison attended the public schools, Woodberry Forest School, Virginia Military Institute, Hampden-Sydney College, and the University of Virginia.He was graduated from Georgetown University Law School, Washington, D.C., in 1926.He was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Winchester, Virginia. Attorney for Frederick County 1932-1940.He served in Senate of Virginia during the years 1940-1942.He served as judge of the seventeenth judicial circuit and the corporation court of Winchester 1942-1946.

Harrison was elected simultaneously as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth and to the Eightieth Congress by special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative A. Willis Robertson, and reelected to the seven succeeding Congresses (November 5, 1946-January 3, 1963).He was not a candidate for renomination to the Eighty-eighth Congress in 1962.He resumed the practice of law. Resided in Winchester, Virginia, until his death there December 29, 1973.He was interred in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
