Wes Hopkins (born September 26, 1961 in Birmingham, Alabama) is a former professional American football safety who played for the Philadelphia Eagles his entire NFL career from 1983 through 1993..cite web|url=http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HopkWe00.htm|title=http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HopkWe00.htm] A walk-on for the Southern Methodist football team, Hopkins was noticed after he made a vicious tackle on future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson at a team practice. Hopkins was selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 1983 NFL Draft. Although he was only selected to the Pro Bowl once in 1985, Hopkins is considered one of the hardest hitting safeties ever to play the game.
