It had to have the steel-frame construction because on the narrow lot allowed for it, masonry supporting walls would have allowed almost no free space on the first floor. He also designed the firstGrand Central Station in 1898. [ Gray, Christopher "The Architect Who Turned a Railroad Bridge on Its Head."
