For centuries the Portuguese have been immigrating to various areas around the world, forming communities, and organizing social groups; the P.H.S. Lusitano located on Long Island, NY is one such group. Based in Mineola, New York this Organization has three primary functions, the first is to secure a place where any Portuguese or Portuguese-descendant can socialize and interact with each other to preserve and spread their culture. The second purpose is to expand that culture within the membership ranks and the community by bringing comedians, singers, performers, and politicians from Portugal to perform or speak in the United States. Lastly the P.H.S. Lusitano is formed to support Portugues and local communities, One of the biggest roles the organization plays is to give not only monetarily to Portuguese and local charities with donations, but to share their capital and resources to make what difference they can abroad in Portuguese nations and right here at home.
