Trapp Family Lodge

Beginning

The von Trapp family, memorialized in "The Sound of Music" and "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" by Maria von Trapp, fled from the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany and ended up in the state of Vermont. In 1950, a 27-room ski lodge was opened. In 1983, the old lodge was shut down and a new, Austrian-style lodge with 93 rooms was opened. The Lodge today

Today, the Trapp Family Lodge has added 23 rooms and 100 guesthouses (guesthouses available through Timeshare only). The Lodge has a gym, tennis courts, sleigh rides, and many other activities. It has a gourmet restaurant, and easy access to skiing, maple sugaring, the Stowe Recreation Path, and downtown Stowe.

The Lodge is one of the principal sites for the annual Vermont Mozart Festival.

Cross-country skiing

During the winter of 1968-69, Johannes von Trapp, the president at the time of the came up with an idea to start cross-country skiing trails at the Lodge.
