Amos Hind

Amos Hind (February 1, 1849 — April 27, 1931) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm round-arm medium pace bowler who played for Derbyshire between 1876 and 1877. He was born and died in Calverton, Nottinghamshire.

Hind debuted for Derbyshire during the 1876 season, against Lancashire, batting in two very steady innings in which he was clearly the standout player for the team, contributing, in the first innings, half of the entire innings total. This form, despite deserting him in the following game, saw him score his first and only half-century in his third match for the club. Hind continued to play steadily in the upper-middle order for most of the rest of the 1876 season, while at times when replaced in this same position by Charles Regan in 1877, the latter did not serve a significant threat to Hind's position in the club at this point.

However, throughout the late spring of 1877, Hind hit a rough patch in his batting form, and was unable to sustain the obvious talents he had possessed as a player the previous year. In spite of an innings of 43 in his penultimate first-class fixture, he decided to give up the game.

Three years later, Hind played for Halifax against Gentlemen of Canada, a team which included former Nottinghamshire player Walter Wright. Hind's brother, Samuel, a mere twenty-two months his senior, played first-class cricket between 1877 and 1878 for Nottinghamshire.
