Barry Everitt ScD FRS FMedSci is
Master ofDowning College, Cambridge and a Professor of Behavioural Neuroscience at theUniversity of Cambridge .He graduated in Zoology and Psychology at
Hull University , received a Ph.D. from theUniversity of Birmingham , and undertook post-doctoral research at Birmingham and at theKarolinska Institute inStockholm , with the eminent neuroanatomistsTomas Hokfelt and Kjell Fuxe. He was appointed to the Department of Anatomy at theUniversity of Cambridge in 1974, became a Fellow ofDowning College in 1976, a tenured University Lecturer and a Director of Studies in medicine at Downing in 1979. He has served on several national and international advisory committees and has been President of the British Association for Psychopharmacology, theEuropean Brain and Behaviour Society and the European Behavioural Pharmacology Society. He is aFellow of the Royal Society (FRS) and a Fellow of theAcademy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci). He is an acknowledged international authority on the neural systems underlying learning, memory and motivation especially in relation to drug addiction.
He is married to Jane Sterling who is a clinical dermatologist and molecular virologist; he has a son, Alex, who is a clinical neurologist and a daughter, Jessica, who is reading psychology at
