Państwowa Komunikacja Samochodowa (commonly abbreviated PKS, can be translated as "State Car Communication") is a major Polish enterprise dealing with public transport.
It was created as a state enterprise in 1945 in post-war communist Poland, until recently it had a monopoly on suburban bus transport in Poland. Recently it has been broken up, with many new companies being privatized.
Incidents
PKS buses involving in two major crashes in Poland. In one - in 1978 - 30 people died, when two buses plunged into lake from 18m bridge in aeration of 15 minutes. In two - in 1994 - a overcrowded bus collided with tree and 32 people die in worst road disaster in country.
