1966 Varto earthquake

The Varto earthquake of 1966 was a natural disaster that occurred on August 19, 1966 in Varto town of Muş Province in eastern Turkey. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured 6.9 on the Richter scale. [ [http://ansiklopedi.blogspot.com/2006/02/varto-mu.html] tr icon] The fatalities reached 2,394 and 1,489 people were wounded. This disaster was preceded by an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 that hit Varto on March 7, 1966 killing 14 and wounding 75 people. [ [http://www.belgenet.com/deprem/depremt.html] tr icon]
