NESDB is the National Economic and Social Development Board of Thailand. It is also called as "Sa-pa-pat" in Thai.
Background
* Established in 1950 as the National Economic Board (NEB)
* Renamed as the National Economic Development Board (NEDB) in 1959
* Launched the First National Economic Development Plan in 1961
* Reformed to the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) in 1972 under the Prime Minister’s OfficeVision
* To become a key agency on planning and formulation of development strategies based on balanced and sustainable development, public participation, and flexibility meeting changing environment and needs of Thai people.
Key Functions
* Formulate the National Economic and Social Development Plan and translate it into action within a 5-year timeframe.
* Make 4 National Agendas:
** 1. Alleviation of Poverty and Income Distribution problems
** 2. Enhancing Thailand’s Competitiveness
** 3. Promoting Social Capital Development
** 4. Promoting Sustainable Development
* Formulate strategies for key government policies and major development projects
* Analyze budget proposals by the state enterprises and related agencies
* Create an Economic Intelligence Database, especially on GDP data
* Develop development indicatorsOrganizational Structure
NESDB Organizational Structure comprises 2 main components.
NESDB Board
* Comprise of 15 distinguished professionals
* Provide recommendations and comments on national economic and social development to the PM and cabinet
* Coordinate between the NESDB and related government agencies and state enterprises to formulate plan, development projects, and implementationOffice of the NESDB
* Divided into 13 offices and 2 divisions
* Headed by the Secretary General
