ExploraVision is a scientific national contest held in the United States and Canada, a joint project by
Toshiba Corporation and theNational Science Teachers Association . Designed forK–12 students of all interest, skill and ability levels, ExploraVision encourages kids to create and explore a vision of futuretechnology by combining their imaginations with the tools ofscience . All inventions and innovations result from creative thinking and problem solving.Since 1992, more than 200,000 students from across the United States and Canada have competed in ExploraVision. ExploraVision is often the beginning of a lifelong adventure in science, as students develop higher-order thinking skills and learn to think about their role in the future.
Requirements
Each student is limited to one entry per year. Students and teachers/mentors complete a Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Awards Entry Form, signed by the students, coach and mentor, an abstract of their project, a detailed project description, a list of technology used that is available at present time, a bibliography, and five Web page graphics that will be used later to create an official web page for the project, if a team advances to the regional level.
Misconceptions
ExploraVision projects are often not achievable, and technology that is not available at the time needed to make the project become a reality is listed under a section of the project called "Breakthroughs".
