temple (wat ) inThailand , located in the Mueang Uttaradit district ofUttaradit Province inNorthern Thailand .Wat Khung Taphao was established in
Thonburi in what is now animportant temple of the Tumbol Khung Taphao, both in the sense of the history of Tambon Khung Taphao and as the location of famous herbs.History
Wat Khung Taphao temple is an ancient temple but there is no concrete historical evidence of when it was built. There have been monasteries since Ayutthaya time but Buddhist priests have only come since the time of Thon Buri.
This
temple was named "Wat Khung sam phao"( _th. วัดคุ้งสำเภา) "(Temple of the bend of sailing ship watercourse)" because it is adjacent to theNan River and a sailing ship crashed into the shore. In the time of
Thon Buri , this was the capital city. Wat Khung Taphao has hall for sermons in the monastery. Khung Taphao villagers were taught by the monks of the monastery until the government supplied replacement teachers. When the river floods, it rises over the river banks and scours them away under the monastery foundations. Khung Taphao villagers decided to establish a new monastery farther from the river in..
After the new monastery was built, the river changed its course and moved away from the monastery; this new land became monastery property.
Background of temple name
When the government came through this area to record the names of the villages and landmarks in this area, the names for this village and this temple were recorded incorrectly. The village name was changed from "Ban Khung sam phao"( _th. บ้านคุ้งสำเภา) to "Ban Khung Taphao" and the temple "Wat Khung Taphao". These names have remained uncorrected to the present day.
