History

WRIX-FM was founded by the late Matt Phillips (who also started WCCP-AM 1560 in 1969 in Clemson, SC). WRIX-FM signed on the air June 10th, 1977 featuring an automated Top 40 format. In 1983, the station changed to Classic-leaning Country as "X103" and added a daytime-only AM station in 1986 when WRIX signed on. WRIX-FM has many local sporting events, local news, death and crime announcements and was the longtime home of "The Matt and Bev" Morning Show.

Matt Phillips, the station's founder and operator died in August 1997. His wife took over and then she died about ten months later. Their daughter took over management of the station. She sold the station in late 2005 to a local business owner who kept all operations mostly the same at the station.

The News–Talk format was aired on WRIX-FM from 2000 to 2008. On September 13, 2008, the station adopted a satellite-fed Variety format with music from the 1960s–1980s called "Variety Station" from Jones Radio Network. Actually, this is a return to the original format that WRIX-FM 103.1 had from 1977-1982 before going Classic Country/Western.
