RMC, ("Ready Mixed Concrete") Plc was a Ready mixed concrete manufacture , quarrying & concrete products manufacture based in the United Kingdom. They were also a leading international producer and supplier of materials, products and services used primarily in the construction industry. It is one of Europe's largest producers of cement and aggregates as well as the world's largest supplier of ready mixed concrete.Citation In 2005, they were acquired by Cemex of Mexico. This was the end of an era - one of the UK,s best companies to work for had been taken over by a bunch of mexicans- talk about the tail wagging the dog! The familiar orange and black RMC rhombus was locked away forever. This was a boob - just as the name Hoover is indelibly tagged for all vacuum cleaners regardless of manufacturer, so was the RMC brand for concrete known throughout the construction industry.

In 1979, the company created Thorpe Park in Staines, Surrey. The site had been one of the firm's quarries, but was redeveloped as a leisure park when mining was complete. The park was sold in 1998 to the Tussaud's Group, owner of Alton Towers and nearby Chessington World Of Adventures. The company however retained it's International HQ on the site. A grand design incorporating old buildings with new, it featured a swimming pool, gym with fitness trainer, sunbeds, indoor squash courts and even a bar complete with a full size snooker table and authentic french barman! It also had award winning roof gardens.Employees and visitors alike were treated to a fine quality lunch in the restaurant every day. Any visitors couldn't fail to be impressed upon arrival - a fitting building for such a large operation.It is unlikely that CEMEX will keep this flagship building as an international HQ- they already have one in Mexico.
