Tony McElroy

Tony McElroy is formerly chief spin doctor for the Scottish Labour Party [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7227516.stm] and was one of UK Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Gordon Brown's press advisors during his leadership campaign.

McElroy came to prominence during the controversial "Newsnight" episode which implied that Labour Party and government press officers were misusing the Prevention of Terrorism Act to prevent a journalist from gaining access to Gordon Brown. However, this was later proven to be a misrepresentation by "Newsnight" who apologised and came at the same time as other similar controversies affected the BBC, including one involving the Queen.

Whilst a student at Glasgow University, McElroy worked for the Scottish Labour Party in the media monitoring unit and for Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) Pauline McNeill. [http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200001/cmselect/cmstnprv/89/89143.htm]

Tony McElroy was part of a delegation of Labour party media advisors who met senior BBC editors to allegedly complain of their pro SNP bias [http://news.scotsman.com/politics.cfm?id=593992007] .

Tony McElroy now works in the private sector.
