René Lemarchand (born 1932) is a French political scientist who is known for his research on ethnic conflict and genocide in Rwanda, Burundi and Darfur. Lemarchand's monographs include "Political Awakening in the Belgian Congo" (University of California Press, 1964), "Rwanda and Burundi" (Praeger, 1970) and "Burundi: Ethnic Conflict and Genocide" (Woodrow Wilson Center Press/Cambridge University Press, 1994).
