- The dogs
The Dogs were a 1980s hip hop group best known for "Crack Rock," their hit single with the chant "Yo' Mama's on Crack Rock!" Lead man, Keith Bell, said the hit song, "Yo Mama's on Crack Rock, Holmes" made the song from a real life experience with his own mother's addiction to crack cocaine. Two years after the group formed, Lead MC Keith Bell's mother was found dead in a Orlando hotel room from a cocaine overdose. As a final tribute at her burial, the Dog's eulogized, as they stated, their "#1 Fan" by playing the song originally written about her.
An all time greatest hits CD of the dogs was released in 2002, which included 4 versions of "Yo Mama's on Crack Rock", including a live version and a 'techno' remix. The dogs promptly broke up in 1991 after back up rapper Fergus "Cracked Up" Smith's desertion of the band to attend a 30 day clinical rehabilitation program for cocaine addiction, and subsequent retirement.
