Grotto Point is one of two leading lights into the Sydney Harbour. The other lighthouse, Parriwi Point, is spaced one mile behind Grotto Point.

Construction began in 1910 and the light was first lit on September 1, 1911. It is one of four such lighthouses designed as a series by architect Maurice Festu.

Using a catadioptric lens, the light emits four occulting signals every 15 seconds. The light colours are white on the leading line, red to the right side and green to the left of the line.
