St. Martin's Abbey, Laon

St. Martin's Abbey, Laon

St. Martin's Abbey, Laon, was one of the earliest foundations of the Premonstratensian Order in about 1120. Along with Cuissy Abbey and Floreffe Abbey it counted as one the "primarii inter pares" of the order, or senior houses.

It was dissolved in the French Revolution. The church of St. Martin in Laon, dating from the middle of the 12th century, is still in use as a parish church. The former monastic buildings, after a variety of civil uses, are now used as the hospital.
