He was born January 19, 1937 in Towson Maryland and died Decemebr 27, 1977 in New York City. He is survived by his longtime companion Barbara Laurence and his daughter Melissa Brown.
His most noteworthy recorded performances were on recordings of
Keith Jarrett (particularly, his "American band" withDewey Redman ); andCharlie Haden 'sLiberation Music Orchestra . On the "Liberation Music Orchestra" album he has a spotlighted performance on the 21 minute suite, "El Quinto Regimiento/Los Cuatro Generales/Viva la Quince Brigada."
