Ali Naqvi (politician)

Ali Naqvi is a Canadian social democratic politician, and lawyer. He has run for political office at both the federal and provincial levels of government for the New Democratic Party (NDP); and is the the NDP candidate for the riding of Etobicoke North, for the current 2008 Canadian federal election (which will be held on October 14, 2008).

Ali Naqvi was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on November 16, 1964. He attended the University of Karachi where he received the following degrees: a Bachelor of Commerce; Masters of International Relations; and Law. He then received a Law degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

He now practices immigration law at Naqvi and Associates LL.Ms. He lives with his wife Raisa Sharipova and their two children Zain and Ameer.

Naqvi is a member of a grassroots citizens coalation, the Community Organizing for Responsible Development (CORD). It lobbies for area businesses to hire locally, community development, and political empowerment in Rexdale.

Besides being a lawyer, Naqvi also works as an immigration consultant. He is a vice president of the International Law Society and serves as a tenant representative on housing issues.

Naqvi isn't the only member of his family that has run for political office. His brother Yasir Naqvi, is the Ontario Liberal Party MPP for the Ottawa Centre electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
