bonuses = The Prix Eclipse is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to two-year-old thoroughbreds. It is presently run over a distance of 1,200 metres (approximately 6 furlongs) at Chantilly Racecourse, and it takes place annually, usually in October.

Named in honour of the 18th century British racehorse Eclipse, the race was first run in 1891. It originally took place at Maisons-Laffitte, and it was initially contested over 1,200 metres. The venue and distance of the event have been subsequently changed many times. The first alterations were in 1905, when the distance was increased to 1,400 metres, and in 1908, when it was extended to 1,600 metres. The race was abandoned from 1914 to 1918 because of World War I.

The 1919 running of the Prix Eclipse was contested over 1,500 metres. It was then cut to 1,300 metres in 1920, when the event began a short spell at Saint-Cloud. The race returned to Maisons-Laffitte in 1923, and the distance was shortened to 1,200 metres in 1925.

The Prix Eclipse was cancelled throughout World War II, with no running from 1939 to 1944. It was relaunched in 1945 at Saint-Cloud, initially with a distance of 1,500 metres. This was quickly changed to 1,200 metres in 1946, 1,600 metres in 1947, and back to 1,200 metres in 1948. For a solitary running in 1954 the race was run over 1,300 metres at Maisons-Laffitte, but it returned to 1,200 metres at Saint-Cloud the following year. The regular distance of the race was increased to 1,300 metres in 1966.

Since 1994 the venue of the Prix Eclipse has been frequently changed. During this period it has been run at four different racecourses – Deauville (1994–96), Saint-Cloud (1997–2000), Maisons-Laffitte (2001–03, 2005), and Chantilly (2004, 2006–08). The present distance, 1,200 metres, was set in 2001.
