Portrayed by
Prentis Hancock , Paul Morrow held the rank and title of Controller, co-ordinating flight traffic to and fromMoonbase Alpha as well as flights in the vicinity of Alphan airspace. He also served as the base's executive officer when CommanderJohn Koenig was not otherwise available.Character biography
Paul had served on Moonbase Alpha for several years prior to the moon's breakaway from Earth and was thus familiar with Commander Koenig. Paul is, as a rule, a by-the-book man, even when doing so makes him unpopular with other members of the base. He can sometimes seem a bit standoffish, but he does have a romantic relationship with
Sandra Benes , a data analyst on Moonbase Alpha, and there is a perceived attraction between him andTanya Alexander , another officer in the base's control center (called Main Mission). Paul is a competentguitar player, and he is shown playing his guitar in his quarters in a few episodes during the first season.Paul's father was one of two hundred people killed in 1985, when the newly launched Voyager 2 deep-space probe's interstellar Queller Drive was started too early, in Earth's atmosphere. Paul was in every episode of Season 1 except "" (when actor Prentis Hancock was busy with a minor medical procedure). Like two other major characters from the first season - Professor
Victor Bergman and David Kano - Morrow did not appear in any of the show's second-season episodes. Like Bergman and Kano, no explanation was offered for his sudden disappearance.Running joke
A running joke among many "Space: 1999" fans concerns the treatment Morrow often receives from Commander
John Koenig , Moonbase Alpha's commanding officer. In a number of first-season episodes Koenig is seen yelling angrily at Morrow, and in a few episodes (such as "The Last Sunset" and "The Full Circle") Koenig actually fights Morrow and invariably beats him up. However, Koenig is usually shown as having a good reason for his actions towards Morrow (for example, in "The Last Sunset" Morrow ate some plants which caused him to become temporarily psychotic). Even so, the notion that Morrow was Koenig's "whipping boy" in the first season has become a part of "Space: 1999" folklore.
