The Passagassawakeag River is a river in
Waldo County ,Maine in theUnited States . The river is approximately 11 miles long. Its source is north-by-northwest ofBelfast, Maine and it empties into thePenobscot Bay at Belfast, where it passes underUS Route 1 . According to historian Joseph Williamson, thePenobscot name means "place of ghosts."References
