National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians

The National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians, or NASPHV, is a U.S. organization whose purpose is to draft uniform public health procedures involving animal-borne disease. It works in close cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control.

NASPHV publishes an annual Rabies Compendium, which includes procedures in case of animal bites. Some animals have an established quarantine period, while others (such as pet skunks) must be decapitated for brain cell testing.
