The 21st Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

ervice

The 21st Michigan Infantry was mustered into Federal service at Ionia and Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 9, 1862. Among the ranks were future prominent Michigan politicians John Avery and Charles E. Belknap.

The regiment was mustered out of service on June 8, 1865.

Total strength and casualties

The regiment suffered 3 officers and 80 enlisted men who were killed in action or mortally wounded and 3 officers and 291 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 377 fatalities.
