Pakistani Constitution of 1956

The Pakistani Constitution of 1956 was the first Constitution of an independent Pakistan, which achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1947. It was enacted on March 23 1956, and was superseded by the 1973 constitution. Some of the provisions were:

#The name of the country will be "Islamic Republic of Pakistan"
#The preamble of the Constitution embodied the sovereignty of God.
#The Head of State shall be a Muslim.
#An Islamic Advisory Council shall be set up to guide the people to order their lives in accordance with the Islamic principles.
#No law, detrimental to Islam, shall be enacted.
#A Commission will be set up by the Head of the State which will examine the present laws and will suggest methods to bring them in conformity with the Islamic principles of life.
