HMAS Gawler (J188)

The first Royal Australian Navy vessel to be named for the town of Gawler, South Australia, HMAS "Gawler" (J188/B241/A115) was a Bathurst class corvette built by the BHP Shipyard at Whyalla in South Australia, launched on 4 October 1941 by Lady Duncan, wife of Sir Walter Duncan, and commissioned on 14 August 1942.

From January 1943 to May 1943, "Gawler" was assigned to the British Eastern Fleet.

"HMAS Gawler" paid off on 5 April 1946, was transferred to the Turkish Navy and renamed "Ayvalik".
