Playing career

Club

Quigley played his club hurling with the famous Rathnure club and enjoyed much success.[2] He won his first county title in 1967 before winning a four-in-a-row in 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974. These wins were converted into Leinster club titles in 1971 and 1973. Quigley won his final three county medals in 197, 1979 and 1980.

Inter-county

Quigley first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Wexford minor hurling team in the early 1960s. He had little success in this grade, however, as a member of the county under-21 team Quigley won back-to-back Leinster medals in 1964 and 1965. This second provincial victory was later converted into an All-Ireland medal. By this stage Quigley had already made his debut for the senior team. He won his first Leinster title in 1965, a win which allowed Wexford advance to the All-Ireland final. Quigley ended up on the losing side that day as Tipperary emerged with the victory. Two years later in 1967 Quigley won a National Hurling League medal and the following year he was appointed captain of the team. That year he captured a second provincial medal before leading his men out in Croke Park for the All-Ireland final. Tipperary provided the opposition again, however, Wexford were victorious on that occasion. Not only did Quigley collect a coveted senior All-Ireland medal but his performance in the championship earned him the Texaco Hurler of the Year award. Wexford lost their provincial crown in 1969, however, Quigley won a third Leinster medal in 1970. Unfortunately, his side were later beaten by Cork in the All-Ireland final.[3] Kilkenny dominated the Leinster Championship for the next five years and Quigley retired from inter-county hurling.

Province

Quigley also lined out with Leinster in the Railway Cup inter-provincial competition. He won Railway Cup medals in 1964, 1967 and 1971.
