The Prix Gladiateur is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds which are four-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 3,100 metres (approximately 1 mile and 7½ furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse, and it takes place annually in September.

First run in 1807, it is considered to be the oldest horse race in France which is still presently contested. Originally the event was titled simply the Grand Prix, and it was run over two circuits of the Champ de Mars, covering a distance of 4,000 metres. The first of several changes to the title was made in 1834, when it was renamed as the Grand Prix Royal. For a solitary running in 1846 it was switched to Chantilly. During the remaining period at the Champ de Mars there were two further title changes – in 1848 it became the Grand Prix National, and in 1853 the Grand Prix Impérial.

The race arrived at its present venue, Longchamp, upon the opening of the racecourse in 1857. At this point the distance was increased to 6,000 metres, which is considerably longer than most other flat races. In 1861 the title was changed to the Grand Prix de l'Empereur, and the distance was extended to 6,200 metres. This extreme length, approximately equal to 3⅞ miles, was maintained thereafter for almost a century.

The present title, the Prix Gladiateur, was introduced in 1869. This was in honour of the French racehorse Gladiateur, who, in 1865, became the first foreign winner of the English Triple Crown. As a four-year-old in 1866 he also won this, the race which would later bear his name. The newly titled event was not run in 1870 because of the Franco-Prussian War.

In 1906 the Prix Gladiateur was run at Chantilly. For the duration of World War I, from 1914 to 1918, it was abandoned. During World War II the race was cancelled twice, in 1939 and 1940. Thereafter, when it could not be run at Longchamp in 1943 and 1944, it was temporarily switched to Tremblay.

The distance of the Prix Gladiateur was cut to 4,800 metres in 1955. It has since been reduced twice more, to 4,000 metres in 1977 and to 3,100 metres in 1991. Although it is still categorised as a long distance race, its present length is only half of that which was contested for much of its history.
