[cite news|url=http://www.boloji.com/places/0020a.htm|title=Tulu Information-2| Malayalam influenced Tulu stated] Tuluvas in Kasaragod can speak fluently in Malayalam and Kannada as well.Like Mappila Muslims in Kasaragod, Tuluvas in Kasaragod has retained their own unique dialect of Malayalam. This is an impure form of Malayalam due to mixture of Tulu ,and up to some extent Kannada.

Recently, Kerala Government has proposed to set up Tulu Academy at Manjeshwaram, Kasaragod District.

imilarities

Malayalam language and Tulu language are closely related.Even the lifestyle of Tuluvas and Malayalees are almost similar. For example, Tulu and Malayalee regions practiced matrilineal system of inheritance in past. [cite news|url=http://www.yawiki.org/proc/Gotra|title=Tuluva- Malayalee matrilineal system Similarities stated] However, very few communities have remained matrilineal now. Also the rituals of these two groups are similar as in case of Bhuta Kola for Tuluvas and Theyyam for Malayalees.

Some of the similarities that are seen in Kasaragod Tulu or (general Tulu) and Malayalam are:

* "Bolpu" in Tulu means morning, same as "Vellupu" in Malayalam meaning morning as well.

* "Puchha" in Tulu means Cat similar to "Puucha" in Malayalam meaning Cat.

* "Undutanda" in Tulu means had your food.In Malayalam it is "Unduvo" meaning the same as in Tulu.

* Unlike Tuluvas in Karnataka, Tuluvas in Kerala can pronounce ഴ (ZHA),which is only seen in Malayalam and Tamil language.

* Like Malayalees, Tuluvas of the region can also pronounce the letter ര (RA),which is only present in Malayalam language.

* The almost extinct Tulu Script is very similar to Malayalam Script. [cite news|url=http://www.boloji.com/places/0020.htm|title=Tulu Information-3| Malayalam-Tulu Scripts]
