List of Survivor contestants

This is a List of contestants who have appeared on the American television show "Survivor". Contestants are called castaways by the show and they compete against each other to become the Sole Survivor and win one million dollars. The series first aired in year when|2000|television and as of May, year when|2008|television there have been sixteen seasons that have been filmed on five continents. A total of 265 different participants have competed and 30 of them have been able to compete in multiple seasons: In year when|2004|television, an ' edition aired, with the cast being comprised of eighteen past competitors, in year when|2005|television as part of a surprise twist, two past contestants from ' competed again in ' and ' featured a tribe of ten returning contestants against a tribe of ten new contestants. Contestants usually apply to be on the show, but the series has been known to recruit contestants for various seasons. For ', the producers had hoped to have a more racially diverse cast, and hoped that a more diverse group would apply after the success of the racially segregated '. When this did not happen, the producers turned to recruiting and in the end, only Gary Stritesky had actually submitted an application to be on the show.
