Golden Gate Badminton Club (GGBC) is a sporting club devoted solely to badminton. It was founded in Menlo Park, California on June 11, 2005 by Mike Yang, former UC Berkeley coach and nationally ranked player who has won over seventy championship titles. GGBC has hosted many of the biggest tournaments in Northern California, including some national ranking tournaments. Players in the tournaments have included world champions such as Howard Bach, Tony Gunawan, and Halim Haryanto.
On October 9, 2007, a second branch of the club, with 8 courts, was opened in Emeryville, California.
Facility
Golden Gate Badminton Club’s facilities include 8 Olympic level courts with convert|35|ft|m|sing=on high ceilings and European-style flooring, a full service pro-shop, a fitness room, a children’s room, locker rooms, and a mezzanine lounge.
Events
Golden Gate Badminton Club has hosted tournaments including the GGOpen, United Commercial Bank/Golden Gate Championships, and the USAB team trials. GGBC will be hosting the 2008 United States Adult National Badminton Championships April 4-6, 2008.
