Robert Lefkowitz

Robert J. Lefkowitz, M.D. is an American physician best known for his work with G protein-coupled receptors. He is a James B. Duke Professor of Medicine and Biochemistry at Duke University as well as an investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He received his B.A. in Chemistry as well as his M.D. from Columbia University. He then went on to become a pioneer in cell receptor biology and biochemistry. He recently was awarded the US National Medal of Science and the 2007 Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine. He has also been the recipient of the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biochemical Research, Institut de France Fondation Lefoulon-Delalande Grand Prix for Science Award, and the Gairdner Foundation International Award.
