Burleson High School is a four-year public high school consisting of grades 9-12 located in Burleson, Texas, and is part of the Burleson Independent School District.

History

In 1901, Burleson's first school, the Red Oak Academy was constructed. It was destroyed by fire in 1909. The State of Texas granted a charter for an independent school district and the citizens of Burleson voted to construct a new school. By 1910 the new school was opened. In 1997, a new building for the high school was built at 100 Elk Drive.

Achievements

Burleson was a state semifinalist in the 4A state title in football in 2001. In 2006, Burleson won the 5-A District Championship in football over Mansfield Summit High School.

Organizations

The school has over 30 organizations, which include community service, foreign language, sports, and UIL organizations.

Media

"Elk TV" first aired in the 2005-2006 school year. It is the school's weekly news program which is written, directed and edited by the students in the broadcast journalism class. MTV is filming a reality show based on Elk TV and the crew called "Made". The show is scheduled to be aired in 2008. Airing all the Burleson High School football games is 1460 AM radio.
