National Association of Volunteer Search and Rescue Teams

The National Association of Volunteer Search and Rescue Teams, Inc. (NAVSAR) was founded in 2006 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of the nation's volunteer search and rescue organizations. NAVSAR organizes and sponsors training and certification events, using existing nationally recognized certification and education organizations, to make this level of training available to more organizations. In addition the organization assists volunteer teams in locating and obtaining grants to fund training, equipment, and supplies and uses group buying power to make equipment and supplies available at lower negotiated rates than would otherwise be available.

In June 2007, NAVSAR received federal tax exempt status as a 501(c)(3) organization from the IRS. 100% of all donations (unless specifically stated) made to NAVSAR are used to support volunteer teams with no costs deducted for administrative expenses.

NAVSAR was founded as a "First of its Kind" organization that ensures a charitable foundation that doesn't rely on public donations to fund its administrative expenses. Additionally, it will provide assistance to volunteer search and rescue teams that typically do not receive funding from any local, state, or federal government organization. These teams provide critical life saving and recovery services to their communities without any cost to tax payers.
