Duane Alexander, M.D. (born 11 August 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland)[1] is the former director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. He held this position from 1986 through 2009, when he moved to the position of senior scientific advisor to the Director of the NIH’s Fogarty International Center. The acting director of NICHD is Dr. Alan E. Guttmacher
Alexander married Marianne Ellis in 1963. They have two children, Keith and Kristin.
He received his MD from Johns Hopkins.
