- Goodgreef
=the awakening =
with its roots dating back to the club boom in the early OO's goodgreef was derived from a small event in Manchester called
totally mashed running fromclubnorth in Manchester. As the event grew a move of venue was needed so in early 2001 the decision was made to change brand name to coincide with the venue change. this in turn proved to be a very wise choice for the young promotion team of Barry Almond and Ben Spier still in their promotion infancy. the venue they chose was Phillips park hall, a former country estate manor house set in acres of rolling woodland in the Lancashire country side in the outskirts of Manchester. a brave gamble for such a new promotion but one that was to pay off! Goodgreef was born!as you drive down 0.7 mile of driveway leading to this small country manor you could tell that it would be something special, this was no ordinary clubnight, non of the usual hustle and bustle of pre-club drinks in a city centre bar then roll on to your club, No this was an event you had to make the effort to reach, and make an effort they did! Clubbers flocked from miles around in the early days mostly from in and around Manchester but as word spread about this "mad party in the middle of nowhere" twang's of different accents could be heard amongst the "greefers" in a few short months a one room club event hosted by a very enthusiastic Barry (Almond) had turned in to a bit of a monster and was causing quite a stir in the clubbing community! Timing it seems was Goodgreef's secret weapon! coming at a time when massive events like Gatecrasher and Godskitchen were seemingly cornering the market with huge events booking massive international DJ's Goodgreef still seemed to offer their clubbers something different and ss word spread about Goodgreef, clubbers were arriving by the coach load.It was quite a sight seeing several 52 seater coaches trying to negotiate down the single track drivewaythe greefers
As with all big club brands there are loyal clubbers, see
crasher kids , and goodgreef was no exception! once a month the small suburb of Whitefield was invaded by enthusiastic clubbers all dressed to the nines in brightly coloured cyber wear, often painstakingly home made as greefers liked to be different! I can honestly say I had never and have to this day never experienced a dance floor like it to say the greefers loved their club is an understatement. Where else would you find clubbers willing to take it in turns all night to hold a speaker cable throughout the whole event! just so the engineers didn't have to turn the music off for ten mins to fix it? the passion they inflicted on their brand was unrivalled by any other club brand in the country. It was this as much as Barry an Bens commitment to showcase new DJ talent and ability listen to what their beloved crowd wanted that cemented Goodgreefs success! goodgreef loved it's greefer's and they loved Goodgreef!the DJ's
Goodgreef was always the place to see something different. pushing new talent has always been a priority for the guys, eventually branching out into their own DJ management agency
PFA ! sure they might have booked a few big hitters for the events but you only had to witness the buzz when a Greef resident took to the decks to see the resident DJ's mostly out shone the guest's! back in the early day's a very young Alex Kidd used to rip a new hole into this rural part of Manchester smashing out his fusion of Dutch German and uk hardtrance making sure that no one left the building till the very end and why would they want to? an even younger starlet back then was Adam Sheridan forging a name for himself even though he was too young to step foot in the place at the time regularly showing up established trance DJ/Producers with his surgically tight mixing and the ability to create set that would send even the most hardened greefer into a euphoric rush! Another name synonymous with Goodgreef and most famously growing at the same meteoric rate as the brand it's self was the young Wiganer Eddie Halliwell nowhere else would you see this astounding entertainer in his natural habitat than in that famous grey little DJ box and im sure he'll tell you himself that's where he was happiest. other special talent have risen from the Goodgreef stable over the years such as Dark By Design aka Gaz West, Shan , Tylor Leigh, Morgan ,James Alexander, Barry Connell(rip) to name a few, all class acts all were destined for big things and best of all achieved it!Past Performers
