Randle cycle

The Randle cycle is a metabolic process involving the competition of glucose and fatty acids for substrates. [cite journal |author=Bevilacqua S, Buzzigoli G, Bonadonna R, "et al" |title=Operation of Randle's cycle in patients with NIDDM |journal=Diabetes |volume=39 |issue=3 |pages=383–9 |year=1990 |pmid=2307295 |doi=] It is theorized to play a role in explaining type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. [cite journal |author=Shuldiner AR, McLenithan JC |title=Genes and pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes: more than just the Randle cycle all over again |journal=J. Clin. It is named for Philip Randle, who described it in 1963. [cite journal |author=Randle PJ, Garland PB, Hales CN, Newsholme EA |title=The glucose fatty-acid cycle.
