Bill Gunn

William Angus Manson Gunn, known as Bill Gunn, (1920-2001) was elected to the Queensland Parliament in 1972 for the Seat of Somerset, representing the National Party of Australia.He had served as a member of the First Cavalry Mobile Vetinary Service during World War II.

Gunn was a grazier before entering politics. He had several portfolios including Education (1980-1982),Industry(1982-1983),and Treasurer(1983-1987). As Minister of Police(1986-1989) he was instrumental in establishing the Fitzgerald Inquiry. He was the Deputy Premier between 1983 and 1989. In addition he was Queensland's delegate to the Australian Constitutional Convention. On page 137 of Don Lane's autobiography "Trial and Error" Lane writes that Gunn "used his Masonic membership skilfully in his own cause." Gunn retired from Parliament in 1992.
