- Vladimir Gilelevich Maz'ya
Vladimir Gilelevich Maz'ya (Владимир Гилелевич Мазья) is a Russian
mathematician , born inLeningrad in 1937. He made contributions to a wide array of areas ofmathematical analysis . He is most well-known for his work onSobolev space s, and in particular the relationship of Sobolev inequalities andisoperimetry .Maz'ya received the
Humboldt Prize in 1999. [Agranovich et al 2008; MacTutor 2008] In 2000, he was elected a to theRoyal Society of Edinburgh , [harvnb|Royal Society of Edinburgh|2008] and theSwedish Academy of Science in 2002. [Agranovich et al 2008] He has been awarded with a number of other prizes as well. [MacTutor 2008] On the occasion of his 60th birthday, two international conference were held in his honor. One at theUniversity of Rostock was on Sobolev spaces. The other, at theÉcole Polytechnique in Paris, was on theboundary element method .
