- Horacio Castellanos Moya
Horacio Castellanos Moya is among the leading contemporary
Salvadoran novelists andshort story writers.He was born in 1957 in
Tegucigalpa ,Honduras , though his family moved toEl Salvador while he was only a few years old. He lived inSan Salvador until 1979, and since has resided inToronto, Canada ,San José, Costa Rica ,Mexico City andFrankfurt, Germany working as ajournalist . His works have been translated into several languages, including English, French, Italian, Portuguese and German, the latter owing largely to his novel "El asco," which is written in tribute toThomas Bernhard , in the style of the Austrian novelist. His first novel, "La diáspora," which concerns the struggles of theexiles from theSalvadoran Civil War , won thePremio Nacional de la Novela , awarded by theUniversidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas , in 1988. He is currently living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a part of the City of Asylum project there. He is currently a visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh.Bibliography
