Ilkorin

Ilkorin

Ilkorin is the name of an Elven people, and their language, invented by J. R. R. Tolkien for his "Book of Lost Tales". The name literally means "Not of "Kôr", Kôr being the original (and subsequently abandoned) name for the hill of Tûna in Valinor as well as the city later named Tirion. In the early "BOLT" conception they occupy the place later taken by Avari, although their origin and history is quite different.

As the "BOLT" developed into the Silmarillion, the Ilkorin were dropped and their language was not further developed. As a result little is known of it, except for some general notes and a few words. There is some speculation among Tolkienists that the Sindarin dialect North Sindarin adopted many Ilkorin features and words.
